Academia.edu raises $11.1 Million
Academia.edu is a social networking website for researchers that has been up and running for 5 years. Although it took three years for Academia.edu to reach 1 million users, they are now on the rise, gaining around 1 million new users every three months.
Thanks to Khosla Ventures and other investors like Spark Capital and True Ventures, Academia.edu has picked up $11.1 million in funding. Now the company can change the way scientific research is distributed and validated. Furthermore, the founder of Academia.edu, Richard Price, hopes that research papers published will be available for free to the public. It can take months and sometimes even years for researchers to have their papers published and then seen by the public, but with Academia.edu it is possible that those papers could be available sooner.
