Google drops price of Chromebooks to $99 (sort of)

To help cash strapped classrooms nationwide, Google is working with DonorsChoose.org, and online charity that connects potential donors directly with the needs of public school classrooms. For the remainder of the holiday season, teachers can request what is already the most widely deployed Chromebook in schools, the Samsung Series 5, for the extremely deep discounted price of $99 which includes hardware, management and support. The Samsung Series 5, which retails for around $400, has already been adopted in over 1,000 schools around the country.

The standard Series 5 Chromebook is 12.1″ and weighs about 3 lbs. It contains a 1.66Ghz Intel dual-core Atom CPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB SSD disk, WiFi, optional 3G cellular data, a 4-in-1 memory card slot and a built in webcam.
