Microsoft (semi-secretly) “launches”

Microsoft has quietly launched  (as in, perhaps the quietest launch in the history of the internet) a new social network, dubbed

“ is an experimental research project focused on the future of social experiences and learning, especially among younger people,” Microsoft said in an email to CNN on Monday.

The site, in private beta at UW, Syracuse & NYU since late last year, is aimed at students and integrates search with social media.  The point, apparently, is to allow students to see what other students are searching for to give each other a quick and easy way to find information on similar topics.  It’s a social media concept that does not focus on sharing the details of each other lives, but rather one that attempts to encourage interaction based solely on shared content.
