San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) June 24, 2013

Today at its 2013 annual conference and expo, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) released its position on technology and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). In the statement, ISTE delineates its belief that the effective use of technology will help schools maximize Common Core success and recommends that the CCSS and ISTE’s education technology standards be implemented in concert. ISTE’s definitive standards are engaged broadly in the United States and around the world for learning, teaching and leading in the digital age.

“The price tag on the technology infrastructure needed to implement the Common Core is high – in the billions of dollars. It’s critical that schools and districts leverage that investment to improve learning outcomes for students,” said ISTE CEO Brian Lewis. “For that to happen, educators and students must have a firm foundation in the skills required to be digital teachers and learners.”

Further, ISTE is pleased that Secretary of Education Duncan and the U.S. Department of Education are now offering states the opportunity to ask for flexibility in when they begin using data from the new Common Core assessments to inform educator evaluation decisions.

The “ISTE Position Statement on the Common Core State Standards” is accompanied by an infographic that illustrates the challenge of building the technology infrastructure combined preparing more than two million teachers to implement the new standards with 45 million students in 45 states around the country.
