Language learning startup Busuu raises $5M

Language learning startup Busuu, which describes itself as a “social network for language learning,” has raised nearly $5M in its first round of funding led by PROfounders Capital with participation from angel investors. The company says it will use the cash to further develop its core product, a free tool to master a new language, and to hire more people.

The London based startup offers free and paid for audio visual language learning in 12 languages both on the web and via mobile app.

In other Busuu news co-founder of Lastminute.com Brent SOMEBODY, has joined its board of advisors. “We are looking forward to supporting the company in its future growth plans and shaking up the global language learning market,” he said in a prepared statement.
