Y-Combinator grad Clever raises $3M to integrate new edtech into schools

Y-Combinator  graduate Clever, an education data startup that connects emerging education technologies with schools’ existing information systems, has announced it has raised $3M in seed funding from Y-Combinator itself, SV Angel, Google Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Mitch Kapor, Jeff Clavier, & Ashton Kutcher (Yes, that Ashton Kutcher.)

Clever aims to bridge the gap between education-focused developers and the student data stored in legacy Student Information Systems (SISes), and does not charge districts or schools, but rather the education companies that it works with to integrate into said systems. Currently more than 40 companies are working with Clever, including Scientific Learning & DreamBox, and the company has doubled the number of schools it’s working with from 1,000 in August to 2,000 today.
