Funds for Learning survey reveals priorities of e-rate applicants
Funds For Learning, the nation’s largest E-rate compliance firm, today announced the results from its national 2012 Survey of E-rate Applicants. The results indicate a continued reliance on E-rate funding, particularly for broadband connectivity.
“The respondents emphasized the importance of the continued success of the E-rate program,” said Brian Stephens, senior technology and regulatory analyst at Funds For Learning. “Applicants see the E-rate program as a critical mechanism in delivering affordable telecommunications and Internet services during times of budgetary shortfalls.”
As a follow-up to a survey of E-rate applicants in 2008 and 2009, Funds For Learning conducted a nationwide survey asking E-rate applicants to share opinions and feedback about their E-rate priorities in the face of rising demand. Responses were gathered over two months, and the aggregate results will be shared with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in hopes of positively influencing E-rate policy.
“We wanted to gather insight on how applicants are using E-rate funds and how their usage has changed since our last survey in 2009,” said Cathy Cruzan, president of Funds For Learning. “The technology needs of schools have evolved and the increased demand for funds is essential to delivering instruction to today’s students. We believe that it is critical to share this feedback with the E-rate community and the FCC.”
Key findings from the survey include:
–Approximately 90 percent of respondents indicate that E-rate funding is critical to their success
–Approximately 40 percent of respondents believe that their current Internet access is adequate
–Approximately 42 percent of respondents indicate that Internet access is the most important category of service in the E-rate program
–Approximately 70 percent of respondents believe that the E-rate program is not adequately funded
