Drexel U Online offering new scholarship program
Drexel University Online and Drexel University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP) are collaborating to award 30 nurses a Gateway to Online Learning Scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, beginning this fall.
“Compelling evidence is clearly showing a highly educated nurse workforce is a key factor affecting patient outcomes, retaining top talent, and achieving ANCC Magnet® designation,” said Dr. Gloria Donnelly, RN, FAAN and dean of Drexel University’s CNHP. “Since our first venture into online learning, I’ve been passionate about our ability to empower nurses around the globe through Internet-based education, and our Gateway to Online Learning Scholarship is another great stride supporting our endeavors.”
The scholarship aims to give registered nurses a head start toward completing their BSN degree through Drexel’s CNHP and allows for participating students to earn three credits for free, after completion of the Introduction to Online Learning course. This required course for all online RN-BSN candidates introduces students to the fundamentals of learning in a web-based atmosphere. The course is specifically catered to veteran nurses who are not recent graduates and have yet to participate in an online education environment.
“Drexel University Online has offered an innovative approach to assist nurses transitioning back to the academic setting,” said Elizabeth Wykpisz, MBA, MSN and chief nursing officer at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. “This scholarship will support re-enforcement of essential writing skills and other dimensions of academic preparation so that nurses will be able to bridge to the next step of completing a BSN degree.”
