Why do students flock to MOOC’s?

MOOC’s, an acronym for “massive open online courses” are all the rage in education, but in a competitive job market where the importance of an actual degree is at an all time high, why would a student spend time and effort on a course that carries no credit and where the only think they will gain is…knowledge?
