The latest from Shmoop: a summer reading list
Shmoop, a publisher of digital curriculum and test prep, announces its 3rd Annual Summer Reading List. If students are looking to get lost in the pages (or Kindle screens) of some seriously awesome summer reads, they’ve come to the right place.
The best books to read this summer:
- Lord of the Rings Trilogy
– Because, come on, when else will students have the time?
– December 14, 2012 couldn’t come soon enough. Shmoop loves J.R.R.
– If students are dreaming of an island getaway, this will majorly rain on their parade.
- Walden
– Take the summer to be at one with nature… and a book.
- The Bacchae
– Summertime… and the living is easy.
- Call of the Wild
– Sure, it’s about winter, but summer is the best time to heed the call.
- Holes
– This one’s about a summer camp—a prison camp, but hey, it’s hot and there’s a lake.
– School’s out, but learning’s not.
– Roald Dahl: a kid’s best friend. He’ll even help kids plan some pranks for next year.
– Students are going to want to jump on this bandwagon. Trust Shmoop.
– The next Twilight? Shmoop thinks so.
- The Sun Also Rises
– It’s kind of like The Bacchae (see above). In Spain. With bullfighters.
- The Three Musketeers
– Need some inspiration for summer adventure? These are the guys for it. P.S. Swashbuckling. Great word.
- Light in August
– Self-explanatory.
- Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows
– Suffering from withdrawal? Relive the magic.
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream
– Duh.
- Big Sur
– Road trip!
- From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
–Just because it’s awesome.
– Lather, rinse, and repeat until a student can move on to Mockingjay.
- Inferno
– Just some light reading.
